The Atlantic coastline is still one of Georgia’s most pristine places to visit.
Help professional archaeologists discover its mysterious past.
The Camden County Archaeological Survey is a scientific study of Camden County, Georgia’s archaeological heritage. Members of the public and professional archaeologists are involved in this project.
Many sites have already been documented, but others in undeveloped areas are as yet undiscovered. Public and professionals can work together to shed light on the rich heritage still hidden in the forests and fields of Camden County.
The goal of this project is not to collect artifacts, preferring instead to collect information from local experts, including land owners, managers as well as artifact collectors. CCAS will document sites by recording locations on maps, taking digital pictures of artifacts/collections and by completing archaeological site forms.
This information will be retained at the Georgia Archaeological Site File in Athens, Georgia. It will remain confidential.
This project is a Coastal Incentive Grant Program (CIG) and was funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through the offices of the Georgia Coastal Management Program (GCMP) and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Coastal Recourses Division
