She was the author of A Little Family History,
an in-depth account of the early Floyd family, including a detailed description of her own generation (Copies in Bryan-Lang Historical Lib., Woodbine, GA; GA Historical Society, Savannah, GA; GA Dept. Archives & History, Atlanta, GA). "Aunt Mary sent me a picture [of herself] which reminds me so much of our grandmother" ("Diary," by Augusta Gallie Floyd, June 1873). In later years she was an accomplished seamstress/artist - fashioned colorful silk quilts
embroidered with animals & flowers (Files of Anne Floyd Williams Chenault, Great Falls, VA). On 22 January 1831, John Floyd gave his daughter, Mary H. Hamilton, a gift of eleven Negroes (CCG Deed Bk. L p. 475). Col. Everard Hamilton served in the War of 1812 & in the Creek War in 1814-1815 - was an aide-de-camp to Gen. John Floyd (Pioneers of Wiregrass GA Vol. VII). In 1826 he was apptd. one of the commissioners to survey the Alabama-Georgia line; in 1827 he was in command of troops sent to disperse hostile Indians along the Ochlockonee River (John Floyd File Folder II - GA Dept. Archives & Hist.). He was elected Secretary of State of GA for ten years (1823-1833) under Governors Troup, Forsyth, Gilmer & Lumpkin (GA Official & Statistical Register - GA Dept. of Archives & Hist.). The family moved to Milledgeville during his terms of service there. The Hamiltons lived in Hancock Co. & in Darien; they owned a plantation in Twiggs Co. He was engaged in cotton the business in Macon & in Savannah (Files of Anne Floyd Williams Chenault). Everard Hamilton died 12 January 1847 in Savannah. Mary Hazzard Floyd Hamilton died 22 October 1888 in Savannah. Both buried at Laurel Grove Cem., Savannah, GA.

He was in failing health at 42 years of age - traveled to White Sulphur Springs, VA, to seek treatment but died of a throat disease three days after arriving there. He died 03 September 1859 & is buried at White Sulphur Springs (Tonge files). He
died in 1854 at Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. VA (The Floyd Letters 1823-1841, comp. by John Hughes Corson). Belle DeLarocheaulion Hamilton & her daughter, Mary Hazzard Hamilton, traveled to France in December 1876. Just after the Civil War, he & his brother, John Floyd Hamilton, formed a cotton brokerage firm in Savannah - J. F. & M. Hamilton Co. (The Children of Pride, ed. by Robert M. Myers, p. 1537 & 1538). Notations from Augusta Gallie Floyd: "Bourkie had a paper sent him, which contained an account of a dreadful
fire in Savannah ... Cousin Duke's office was burned ("Diary" August 1876). "Poor cousin Duke has failed and they were obliged to sell their house and will board out, this must be a heavy blow to them, particularly to Aunt Mary, who has been keeping house over forty years. How glad I should be to help them but alas! have nothing to give but heartfelt sympathy..." ("Diary," June 1877). The 1880 Chatham Co. GA census lists: Marmaduke Hamilton, Head
of household; Occupation: Cotton Merchant; his mother & sister, Zoe, are living with him; they have one servant; their dwelling is located on South Broad Street in Savannah. "He had been very wealthy at one time... he made over $100,000 in one summer... though when he died his estate was small... there were several lots of personal effects, among which were Floyd family relics" (Letter on 21 May 1932 from Marmaduke H. Floyd to his cousin Hazlehurst R. Noyes - original in
