| 4. SARAH CATHERINE WIGG FLOYD born 12 December 1799 in McIntosh Co., GA; married DR. AIME/AIMEE DeLAROCHEAULION on 28 February 1822 at Fairfield Plantation in Camden Co., GA. She & her sister, Susan Lodviski Dixon
Floyd, were married in a double ceremony performed by Rev. William Mathews, Episcopal minister. Aime DeLarocheaulion was born 08 June 1797 in Dinan, France. Three children (Mary Ann Sophia, John Floyd, Isabella Maria Caroline). Sarah Catherine Wigg Floyd went to high school in Beaufort, SC; she was described as "an accomplished, intellectual woman, a general favorite, and much loved at home. She died of a long and painful illness at
Savannah, GA" (A LittleFamily History, by Mary Hazzard Floyd Hamilton). Sarah C. W. Delarocheaulion was living in Glynn Co., GA, when on 22 January 1831, John Floyd gave her a gift of nine slaves (CCG Deed Bk. L p. 473). On 01 December 1832, William Clements of Wayne Co. conveyed 499 & 1/4 acres on the main branch of the Turtle River to Dr. A. DeLaroche [sic] of Glynn Co., GA (Glynn Co. GA Deed Bk. H p. 300). In 1842, Dr. Aime Delaroche conducted several
real estate transactions in CCG: 2325 acres bordering Crooked River from Edwin Albert; another 3240 acres bordering Crooked River from James Troup; 370 acres from Richard F. Floyd; 1000 acres on Todd's Creek from Henry H. Floyd (CCG Deed Bk. N p. 393-397, 439). In 1850, Aime & Sarah Delaroche were listed on the census for Camden County - he was a physician. On 19 August 1865, S.C. Delaroche wrote a note to Malcolm Crawford notifying him that he had no right to build a
house on her land nor permission to plant the said tract - she informed him that he had her consent to remove his house. On 08 September 1865 she wrote to her brother, Henry H. Floyd: "I sincerely love my brothers and take a great interest in their welfares. As regards my rights - I mean to maintain them. I beg to decline seeing Mr. Crawford with you for the purpose you mention. I did not know when I wrote him that you were concerned or I should have written first to you. Before the receipt of my letter he found out that the land in question was mine and in his reply acknowledged it. What I there wrote, I mean where-to-fore, the land is mine ... " (Letters & notes in S.C. Delarocheaulion file, Marmaduke H. Floyd Collection, Special Collections - Duke U Lib., Durham, NC). On 19 November 1867 Sarah C. Delarocheaulion sold the Black Point Plantation in CCG cont. 5,000 acres & the adjoining Shelby tract (once owned by Richard F. Floyd) cont. 6,000 acres for $8,500.00 to Henry Russell, a solicitor of Belfast, Ireland (CCG Deed Bk. Q p. 123 & 124). Sarah's attorneys in Savannah negotiated the sale of her property. In December 1867 she received $7,681.25 net proceeds for the Black Point Plantation in Camden County, GA. Title was perfected on another tract - called Marsh Field - containing two hundred acres of hammock pine & marsh nr. Todd's Creek. There was a question as to ownership - supposedly in 1856 a bond for that particular tract had been given to Henry H. Floyd by Dr. Delarocheaulion but never recorded - Henry H. Floyd subsequently leased the property to Malcolm Crawford. Later, Malcolm A. Crawford bought the property - although in 1871 he hired attorney, J. M. Arnow, of St. Marys, GA, who wrote to Mrs. Delaroche in Savannah, requesting that she execute the deed to Col. H. H. Floyd as agreed (S. C. Delarocheaulion file, Duke U. Lib.). Finally, on 20 March 1872, Sarah C. Delaroche sold 200 acres "known as Marshfield" to M. A. Crawford (CCG Deed Bk. Q p. 405). Aime DeLarocheaulion died 06 October 1858 & is buried at the Floyd Fam. Cem. nr. the site of Fairfield Plantation, CCG. Sarah Catherine W. Floyd DeLarocheaulion died 08 May 1876 in Savannah & is buried at Laurel Grove Cem. in Savannah, GA.
