6. SUSAN LODVISKI DIXON FLOYD born 07 March 1804 in Camden County, GA; married BENJAMIN HOPKINS on 28 February 1822 at Fairfield Plantation, CCG.  Susan & her sister, Sarah Catherine Wigg Floyd, were married in a double ceremony performed by Rev. William Mathews, Episcopal minister.  He was born 04 January 1802 at Daufuskie Island, SC, the son of BRIG.-GEN. FRANCIS HOPKINS & REBECCA SAYRE.  (His brother was William Proctor Hopkins who m. Melinda Isabella Floyd; another brother, Edward S. Hopkins was in a duel with Charles R. Floyd).  Ten children (John Francis, Charles Rinaldo Floyd, Cornelia CarolineChristina, Isabella America Rebecca , John Floyd, Mary Hamilton, Isabella Maria,Henry Floyd, Joseph Mulvy, Francis A.).  "She was named for her great-grandmother.  The Lodoviski [sic] was stuck in, I think, because of the intense popularity about the time she was born of a book that purported to be the true & horrible life story of a daughter of Count Pulaski ... but it was a hoax [discovered much later] for Pulaski was a bachelor ... our Charles might have been acquainted with Pulaski, in addition to having been such a great admirer that he would have his granddaughter bear the name of the (imaginary) offspring" (Letter on 21 May 1932 from Marmaduke H. Floyd to his cousin, Hazlehurst R. Noyes - original in possession of Sabra Noyes Goldsmith, Panama City, FL).  After their marriage, Benjamin & Susan Floyd Hopkins went to live at Baisden's Bluff (the Hopkins home-place - commanded a fine view from a high bluff looking out to sea through Sapelo Sound) near Darien in McIntosh Co., GA. They returned to CCG after his mother died.  From 1826-1833 he served as Captain of the 31st Militia District in Camden County; for three years was a Major of the 8th Battalion (Pioneers of Wiregrass Vol. V p. 210-211; & GA Military Affairs Vol. 5).  In Alice C. Tonge's notes, Benjamin Hopkins was listed as a Col.  In 1836 he was a State Senator in the Georgia Legislature (History of Camden County GA, by Vocelle).  In St. Marys, GA, on 11 August 1840, Benjamin Hopkins rec. $1000.00 for his transfer of "all the claim which I may hold in right of my wife to the lands of her Father, the late Gen. John Floyd, either in Camden or McIntosh County" (CCG Deed Bk. N p. 341).  They moved to FL.  After serving in the Seminole War in the FL militia, he attained the rank of Brigadier-Gen. in 1855.  Although he was too old to serve, during the Civil War he organized a company of rangers for the State Troops in Florida and served as Capt. of that unit (Roster of Confederate Soldiers Vol. VIII p. 147).  Benjamin & Susan L. Hopkins were listed on the 1850 & 1860 census schedules in Putnam Co., FL - in 1850 his occupation was planter; in 1860, lawyer.  After her husband died, Susan moved to Jacksonville - on the 1870 Duval Co., FL census she was listed in the household of her son, Henry F. Hopkins, a grocery clerk.  In 1873, she resided elsewhere in Jacksonville: "We went to the store to see Cousin Henry, & learn from him where Aunt Susan lived...He directed us to Aunt Susan's domicile.  When we got there the front door was open, so we walked in. Hal spoke to Aunt Susan & they seemed very glad to see him, they did not know me till Hal told them who I was & then they treated me quite affectionately.  There were cousins, Bella Lopez [sic], & Cornelia Smith. The former lives with her mother. She has two children, & two of Mr. Lopez's by a former marriage, live with Aunt Susan ... Hal left before supper as Cousin Henry wanted him to go to his house ... they brought in pound cake, ginger cake, tea & coffee.  Aunt Susan seems quite infirm" ("Diary," by Augusta Gallie Floyd - February 1873 - as she & her brother, Hal Floyd, were en route from Moccasin Branch via Jacksonville to Camden County to see their father, Henry H. Floyd, who was gravely ill).  Benjamin Hopkins died in 1862 in St. Augustine, FL.  Susan L. D. Floyd Hopkins died 27 December 1873 in Jacksonville, FL.  Both buried in Sec. 1, Lot 43 at Old City Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.
