Robert Brown ~ Hugh Brown, Sr. ~ Hugh Brown, Jr. ~ James David Brown

ROBERT BROWN:

Robert Brown was presumably from Virginia and then of South Carolina.  His date of birth is unknown and information regarding his wife is unknown but he had at least one son, Hugh Brown.

Robert Brown made a request for a land grant survey in Craven County, South Carolina which was certified on 03 November 1767. The plat was granted on 01 February 1768; recorded and signed by the Governor in March 1768.  This land consisted of 100 acres in Craven County bordering the Saludy River on the south west.  It was bounded on the north west by Robert Brown, the north east by John Willard, the south east by William Craise.  It was recorded by Ralph Humphries, D.S.  For the memorialist, Patrick Cunningham.

Source:  "Citizens and Immigrants-South Carolina, 1768," Abstracts by Mary Bondurant Warren, pages 18, 21, 48, 72, 79 & 153.

Robert Brown died sometime between 1768 and 1774 in South Carolina.  Charleston Deed Book A-6 pages 365-366 states that on 21 January 1774 Robert Brown's son, Hugh Brown of Craven County 96 Dist., SC, sold 90 of 100 acres on the north side of the Saludy [sic] River for 200 pounds to Patrick Cunningham, Esq. and that this was land was originally granted on 01 February 1768 to ROBERT BROWN deceased, the father of Hugh Brown

In Charleston Deed Book A-6 page 365 - the Land Plat is described and drawn:
