BROWN LINEAGE

ROBERT BROWN  born in Virginia?  Married & settled in South Carolina.  Died ca. 1768 & 1774 in South Carolina. He had at least one son, Hugh Brown.

HUGH BROWN SR. born ca. 1749 in Virginia; married SARAH (last name unknown).  He died in 1811 or 1812 in Camden County, GA; place of burial unknown.  She died prob. ca. 1821-1822 in CCG; place of burial unknown.  They had at least one son, Hugh Brown Jr.

HUGH BROWN JR.  born 19 July 1788 in Camden Co., GA; married ELIZABETH DEAN on 13 April 1815 in Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., GA.  Ten children.  She was born 10 April 1796 prob. in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, GA, the dau. of William Dean & Jane [possibly Sessions]. He died 29 July 1851 in CCG; she died 29 June 1861.  Both buried at Burnt Fort Cemetery in Camden County, GA.

Nungazer, Justice of Peace - CCG Marriage Book B 1831-1880 p. 13.  Twelve children.   He was born 28 March 1811 in CCG, the son of Phillip Goodbread Jr. & Catherine Souder.  Fam. moved to Columbia Co., FL.  She died 11 June 1861; he died 12 November 1868 or 1869.  Both buried at Corinth Methodist Church Cemetery in Columbia County, FL.

    January 1853; buried Corinth Methodist Church Cem.

    2. PHILLIP GOODBREAD born 11 June 1835; married ELIZABETH ANN

    April 1842; buried Burnt Fort Cemetery CCG - oldest marked grave.

    4. AMERICA GOODBREAD born 22 August 1837 in CCG; married JOHN
    VINCENT BROWN on 08 January 1856 in Columbia Co., FL.  They had eleven
   children.  He was born 02 September 1830 in CCG, the son of Robert Brown of
   Camden County, GA and Eliza Ann Clementine Pendergast.   He died 26
   November 1895 & she died 12 November 1912 in Lake City, FL; both buried at
   Corinth Methodist Church Cemetery in Columbia County, FL.

   08 December 1916 & she died 21 December 1959.  All three buried at Corinth
    Methodist Church Cemetery in Columbia Co. FL.

2. WILLIAM DEAN BROWN born 23 October 1818 in Camden Co., GA; married HATTIE C.HOLLAND.  She was born 07 September 1829 in Monroe Co. GA.  Nine children (Marietta Virginia, James, Georgia Ophelia, John Houston, Mary Ann, Fannie Dean, Phillip Cato, Hattie Olivia, William D.).  He died 16 July 1872 & is buried at Burnt Fort Cemetery in CCG - tombstone reads:  William D. Brown Co. B. 4 Ga. Cav. CSA.  Hattie Holland Brown married 2nd to David B. Higginbotham, date was possibly 13 February 1883 - Hettie [sic] Higginbotham, age 70, was listed in the household of John Houston & Mary Brown on 1900 CCG census; she died after 1900.

    Clyde, William Houston, Annie Bernice, James Holland, Mabel Beulah, Thomas
    Rose, Ralph Hopkins, Sidney Hall).  She was born 15 December 1860, the
    daughter of Thomas Means Godley of Beaufort District, SC & Ann Elizabeth
    Gowen.  J. H. Brown worked on his father's farm located near Burnt Fort on the
    Satilla River; was a sheriff in CCG.  Moved to Brantley Co., GA in 1927.  She
   died 28 November 1934 & he died 22 or 27 October 1937.  Both buried Palmetto
    Cemetery in Brunswick, GA.

        1. BENJAMIN CLYDE BROWN born Sunday 04 September 1887; married
        REBA MAE ROSE on Wednesday 12 June 1912 by Acting Vicar D. Watson
        Winn at Christ Church in St. Marys, GA - Witnesses were:  John Houston &
        Mary Rebecca (Godley) Brown of Midriver; David Potter & Leah Eliz.
        (Silverberg) Rose of St. Marys - CCG Marriage Record Book D 1900-1935 p.
        226 & CCG Episcopal Parish Register p. 222 & 223.  Two children.  She was
        born 02 January 1889 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of David Potter Rose, a
        Georgia State Senator, & Leah Elizabeth Silverberg.  Reba Mae's name was
        originally Rebecca Marian Rose - as told to one of her fam. members.  He
       died 03 February 1970 & is buried at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cem. in
       North West  Miami, FL.  She died 11 August 1978 & is buried at Vista
       Memorial? Cem. in Hialeah, FL.


        2. WILLIAM HOUSTON BROWN "Willie" born Monday 17 June 1889; married
        JESS HATCHER.  Two children.  He raised stock and operated a Naval Store
        in  Brantley Co., GA.  He died 20 February 1972.

        3. ANNIE BERNICE BROWN Sunday born 01 May 1892; died 27 September
        1893.

        4. JAMES HOLLAND BROWN born 12 May 1894 at Midriver, CCG; married
        GEORGIA MALLETTE LITTLEFIELD on 06 June 1928 in Folkston, Charlton
        Co., GA.  Three children.  She was born 28 March 1908 nr. Burnt Fort, CCG,
        the daughter of Joseph Carnie Littlefield & Janie Margaret Liles.  James H.
        Brown graduated from AL-GA Business College in Macon & received a BA
        from the U of AZ. Georgia M. Brown (sister of Mildred L. Littlefield) graduated
        from GA State Womens College in Valdosta, GA & received a BS from
        Appalachian Univ. in Boone, NC - taught school in Folkston. He died 16
        October 1942 & she died 11 July 1991.  Both buried at Pineview Cem. in
        Charlton Co., GA.

        5. MABEL BEULAH BROWN born Saturday 05 December 1896; name listed
        in John Houston Brown Family Bible as Mabel Beaulah (Bible in possession
       of Sidney Hall Brown, Jr.). Married 1st ROBERT HARLEY & 2nd DWIGHT
        LINCOLN HOOD, M.D. One dau.  She died 20 May 1970 in Reno, NV.

        6. THOMAS ROSE BROWN born Thursday 05 January 1899; married 1st
        GERALDINE "Gerry" ULCH of Jacksonville, FL; 2nd LOUISE (no last name
        given); 3rd HELEN (no last name given) - one daughter.  He died 19 November
        1974.

        7. RALPH HOPKINS BROWN born Thursday 01 February 1900 nr. Midriver,
        Camden Co., GA; married DAISY ELIZABETH GAUNT on 11 September 1925
        in her father's house at 2401 S.W. 10th St. in Miami, FL.  Three children.  She
        was born 03 June 1903 in Miami, dau. of Edgar Cooper Gaunt & Mary Alice
        "May" Brown.  He died 05 March 1955 & she died 26 August 1994 in
        Gainesville, FL. Both buried Woodlawn Park Cem. in Miami, FL.

        8. SIDNEY HALL BROWN born Thursday 27 November 1902 in CCG - birth
        certif. reads: Born White Oak, GA (RFD to Midriver).  In family records of
        Sidney H. Brown, Jr., he was born in the house in Midriver once owned by
        John Houston Brown & Minkie Godley Brown (house was purchased by
        Andrew Barney Godley & Maude Pacetti Godley after their home burned in
        1928 - "Camden's Challenge," p. 374 - house still exists as of 1996).  He
        married MILDRED LILES LITTLEFIELD on 01 September 1926 at Burnt Fort
        Chapel in CCG.  Two children.  She was born 06 November 1904 in Bladen,
        Glynn Co., GA, the daughter of Joseph Carnie Littlefield & Janie Margaret
        Liles.  For over thirty-five years Sidney Brown was the postmaster at
       Ochopee, FL - the USA's smallest Post Office.  Mildred L. Brown
       (sister of Georgia M. Littlefield) graduated after two years from GA State
       Womens College in Valdosta, GA.  She was the postal clerk at Ochopee. 
       They retired from Ochopee about 1976/1977 to live in Folkston, GA.  He died
       18 August 1980 in Folkston & she died 14 October 1989 in Jacksonville, FL. 
       Both buried at Burnt Fort Cem. Camden Co., GA.

    6. FRANCES DEAN BROWN "Fanny" born 09 July 1864/1865 in Camden Co.,
    GA; married FRANCIS JOSEPH HOPKINS on 27 July 1881 - CCG Marriage
    Record Book C1880-1900 p. 26. He was born 08 July 1847 in Raleigh, NC, the
    son of Timothy Hopkins & Elizabeth Ripley.  Twelve children (Francis Joseph,
    Walter Colquitt, Mary Gertrude, Florence Dean, Hershel Timothy, Alva Joseph,
    Elizabeth C., Morris H., Lee Rivers, John Kenneth=also listed as Kenneth J.,
    Robert Stephen, unnamed infant).  He inherited "Pine Dale Plantation" on the
    north side of the Satilla River from his father which was later known as the
    Hopkins Place.  He died 23 October 1908; she died 24 May 1923. Both buried
    Burnt Fort Cemetery CCG.

        1. FRANCIS JOSEPH HOPKINS born 27 July 1881 CCG; died 24 May 1903;
        buried Burnt Fort Cem.

        2. WALTER COLQUITT HOPKINS born 16 May 1882 in CCG; married LULA
        MAE SHEPARD on 19 March 1912 at the residence of J.C. Harper in Wayne
        Co., GA - no issue. She was born 03 January 1890, the daughter of Jesse C.
        Shepard & Macy Harper. W. C. Hopkins was a timberman in CCG & was
        postmaster of Midriver in 1910.  He was a pioneer in the Southeast GA Naval
        Stores industry; owned extensive timber lands in Charlton, Wayne & Camden
        Counties - manager of Toledo Manufacturing Co. in Charlton Co.; served 24
        years on the Charlton Co. Board of Commissioners; served on GA Forestry
        Commission & was director of Citizens Bank (according to obit. in Bryan-Lang
        Library).  She died 20 July 1962 & he died 27 February 1964 in Folkston, GA.
        Both buried at Pineview Cem. in Folkston.

        3. MARY GERTRUDE HOPKINS "Mamie" born 05 April 1884 in CCG; married
        1st FRANCIS GUILMARTIN FLOYD "Guil" on 26 June 1905 at Bailey's Mills,
        CCG.  He was born 29 July 1878 at Moccasin Branch, FL, the son of Henry
        Hamilton Floyd Jr. & Isadora Jane Rogero.  Guil Floyd grew up on his father's
        small plantation at Moccasin Branch, FL called "Villa Vista."  Three children
        (Frances Hyacinth, William Catherine, Hamilton Hopkins).  Mamie married
       2nd to STEVE R. PACETTI. She died 05 August 1968 at Lake Worth, FL.

        4. FLORENCE/FLORIDA DEAN HOPKINS "Florrie" born 30 March 1886 in
        CCG; never married; graduated from St. Joseph's Hosp. in Atlanta (RN) &
        remained in nursing there the rest of her life; died 22 February 1956 in Atlanta
        GA; buried Burnt Fort Cemetery.

        5. HERSHEL TIMOTHY HOPKINS born 17 October 1888 in CCG; never
        married; moved to SC; died 29 July 1956; buried at Hartswell, SC.

        6. ALVA JOSEPH HOPKINS born 22 February 1890 in CCG; married 1st
        ETHEL SHEPARD of Wayne Co., GA - three children.  He married 2nd
        LORRAINE ODOM of Wayne Co. - two children.  Alva J. Hopkins was
       engaged in extensive timber production; served as a Wayne Co.
       commissioner for 20 years; died 16 January 1960 in Jesup, GA; buried Burnt
       Fort Cem.

        7. ELIZABETH CALE HOPKINS "Lizzie" born March 1892 in CCG; married Dr.
        WILLIAM Y. GILLIAM. One son.   Moved to TN.  She graduated from St.
        Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta - RN.  She died 29 July 1960 & is buried at
        Copperhill, TN.

       8. MORRIS/MAURICE HOUSTON HOPKINS born March 1894 in CCG;
        married 1st EDITH BLACKBURN - no issue.  Married 2nd EDITH BARRETT -
        no issue.  He died 28 November 1955 & is buried in Atlanta, GA.

        9. LEE RIVERS HOPKINS born 26 June 1896 nr. Bailey's Mill in CCG;
        baptized 07 November 1904 at the Church of the Messiah at Owens Ferry
        CCG by Rev. C. K. Nelson - sponsors were Francis Joseph Hopkins, William
        Colton Lang, Mary Gertrude Hopkins, Catherine (Kate) Russell (p. 122
        Episcopal Parish Register for CCG).  Married SUSIE WOODS on 16
        September 1926 in Atlanta, GA.  One child.  After retiring from the Seaboard
        Railway, moved to Everett City, GA, where he became the Postmaster &
        operated a general store there.

       10.JOHN KENNETH HOPKINS born 17 October 1898 nr. Bailey's Mill, CCG;
        baptized 07 November 1904 at the Church of the Messiah at Owens Ferry
        CCG by Rev. C. K. Nelson - sponsors were Francis Joseph Hopkins, William
        Colton Lang, Mary Gertrude Hopkins, Catherine (Kate) Russell (p. 122 CCG
        Episcopal Parish Register).  Married RUTH GEORGE KETCHUM. Two
        children.  She was born 27 August 1903 & died 09 February 1968.  He died 17
        April 1931; both buried Burnt Fort Cem. Camden Co., GA.

        11.ROBERT STEPHEN HOPKINS "Bob" born 29 June 1901 nr. Bailey's Mill in
        CCG; baptized 07 November 1904 at the Church of the Messiah at Owens
        Ferry CCG by Rev. C. K. Nelson - sponsors were Francis Joseph Hopkins,
        William Colton Lang, Mary Gertrude Hopkins, Catherine (Kate) Russell (p. 122
        CCG Episcopal Parish Register).  Married SARAH KENDIRCKS on 01 March
        1930 in Atlanta, GA - no issue.  Moved to Charlotte, NC.

        12.INFANT DAUGHTER died 17 May 1903; buried Burnt Fort Cem. CCG.

    7. PHILLIP CATO BROWN born 10 October 1866 in Camden Co., GA; married
    ALLIE AGNES READDICK on 21 June 1894 - CCG Marriage Record Book C
    1880-1900 p. 332.  Three children (Gertrude Allie, John Phillip, Maddie=Mary
   M.).
    She was born 23 April 1873, the daughter of John Readdick & Madison Amanda
    Reed Gowen.  Cato Brown purchased & ran the general store at Midriver; owned
    the two-story house in Midriver (formerly the Goodbread House - now called "The
    Brown House" by locals); later bought "Maryfield Plantation" on the north side of
    the Satilla River and became a rice planter; he helped move the Midriver School
    to the Burnt Fort site. Allie Brown was the last apptd. postmaster at Midriver in
    1914.  He died 23 October 1934; she died 27 March 1962. Both buried Burnt Fort
    Cemetery CCG.

        1. GERTRUDE ALLIE BROWN born ca. 1896 in CCG; married CHARLES F.
        SCHEIDER - two children. Resided on St. Simons Island, GA.

        2. JOHN PHILLIP BROWN "Phil" born ca. 1897 in CCG; married ALLA MAE
        EVANS - two children. Moved to Brunswick, GA.

        3. MADDIE BROWN born ca. 1899; married ROBERT THEODORE CLARK-
        no issue.  He was born 24 August 1890; died 17 July 1954 & is buried at
        Homeward Cem. in Camden Co., GA.  On certain records her name is listed
        Mary M. Brown; for several years, she lived in the old Goodbread House at
        Midriver. [Compiler's Note: The old two-story Goodbread House, which built
        ca. 1834 by Jacob T. Goodbread & his wife, Jane Dean Brown, was
       completely torn down in 2000]. She died 10 January 1990 & is buried at Horse
       Stamp Cem. in Camden Co., GA.

3. HUGH BROWN III born 07 December 1820; married THERESA ANN JONES on 28 October 1851 in Lake City, FL.  She was born 01 July 1837 in CCG, the daughter of John W.     in Jacksonville, FL.  He married 2nd MARGERY McGINNIS who was born 15
    January 1867 & died 03 December 1944.  One daughter.  He died 25 November
    1931 & is buried at West Evergreen Cem. in Jacksonville.

Brown Patterson died 13 June 1846 & is buried at Burnt Fort Cemetery CCG.  Two years later, Nathaniel married her sister.

    Jesse Cooper & Mariah Goulding.  Seven children (James Patterson, Jesse
    Thomas,  Sarah Mariah, Nathaniel John, Mary E., Charles Green, George
    Barton).  Jesse Cooper was listed as "James" Cooper on p. 244 of Alton
   Murray's "South Georgia Rebels."  Same source - p. 79 & 298 states that he
   served as a Corporal in the Civil War & wounded his hand in 1862.  He was
   reported by his niece, Eleanor, to be "quite a good doctor" but "an atheist"!  He
   died 15 September 1883 in Jasper, FL; she died 22 March 1910 in City Point, FL
   & is buried at Old Cocoa Cemetery, Cocoa, FL.

       Cooper was a pharmacist. He died 14 November 1932 & buried in Miami, FL -
       records of Robert B. Bennett (buried at Old Cocoa Cemetery, Cocoa, FL -
       records of Cocoa Cem. compiled by DAR - on LDS microfilm no. 0850395). 
       She died 01 February 1946 & is buried at Woodlawn Park Mausoleum in
       Miami, FL.

        3. SARAH MARIAH COOPER "Sallie" born 31 December 1868 in CCG;
        married AMBROSE MADISON BENNETT SR. on 02 December 1888 in
        Jasper, Hamilton Co., FL. Nine children.  He was born 15 March 1862 in
        Withers, Clinch Co., GA, the son of Redding Bennett & Anna/Anne Harnage.
        Ambrose M. Bennett managed a turpentine business nr. Jasper until 1900. 
       He moved to White Springs in Hamilton Co. & commuted to Paradise in
       Alachua Co. where he continued to manage a turpentine operation.  In 1903
       he moved to Armstrong in St. Johns Co. working in the same business.  In
       1904 he moved to Racey Point, St. Johns Co., where he managed a large
       orange grove & was postmaster. In 1905 he purchased land in Neoga in
       Flagler Co. & operated a turpentine business there.  He sold this property in
       1920, moved to Pierson in Volusia Co. where he owned & operated an orange
       grove and fern nursery.  Sallie Cooper Bennett died 10 February 1935 in
       Pierson, FL; Ambrose M. Bennett died 18 August 1935 in Pierson, FL.  Both
       buried at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cem. in Pierson, Volusia Co., FL.

JAMES DAVID BROWN born 18 July 1831 in Camden Co., GA; married 1st MARY POPE GODLEY of Beaufort SC, the daughter of Benjamin Godley & Mary (last name unknown) & sister of Thomas Means Godley. Four children (Hugh Crawford, William Weston, Nathaniel, John Pope).  She died ca. 1868-1870 & is buried in an unmarked grave at Burnt Fort Cemetery.  He married 2nd CLARA ANN GELZER on 11 August 1872 - by Rev. J. Spelman - Camden County, GA Marriage Record Book B 1831-1880 p. 231.  She was born 20 February 1854 in Summerville, SC, the daughter of Thomas Lining Gelzer M.D. & Clara Anne Reid, both of SC.   Between 1850-1860 the Gelzers moved from South Carolina to Camden County where Dr. Gelzer set up his medical practice in Jeffersonton on the south side of the Satilla River.  Clara Ann Gelzer was the sister of Alice Charlotte Gelzer who married Hugh Crawford Brown.   James David Brown & Clara Ann had five children (Annie Marion, James Bedell, Frank Hopkins, Mary Alice, Claude Eugene).  James D. Brown died 30 April 1888 & is buried at Burnt Fort Cemetery in CCG - tombstone inscription reads: "James David Brown Co. C. 4 Ga. Cav. CSA."   Clara Ann moved to Miami, FL in 1896 or 1898; she died on 16 August 1919 & is buried at City Cemetery in downtown Miami, FL.

    FL about 1915-1916.  She died 15 February 1927 & he died 17 September 1938.

        Daisy Brown on 26 July 1885 at Ulmer? School near Sand Hills by Rev. D.

        Episcopal Parish Register for CCG).  Baptismal Certificate reads:  "Marion
        Deas Brown, was received into the congregation of Christ's flock by Holy
        Baptism on the ~ day of August A.D. 1885 at Ullmer's school house, Camden
        Co., Ga.  Mrs. Clara Anne Brown & Mr. James David Brown; Sponsors.  D.
        Watson Winn, P."  She died 20 October 1887 in CCG. Tombstone in Burnt
        Fort Cemetery: "Daisy Brown Died October 20, 1886  Age 2 years, 11
       months."

        2. ALICE CORNELIA BROWN "Allie" born 01 November 1887 at Owens Ferry,
        CCG; baptized at her parents' home in CCG on 27 May 1888 by Rev. D.
        Watson Winn of Christ Church, Frederica, St. Simons Island, GA.  She
       married JAMES B. CARMICHAEL "Jim" on 03 January 1906 at the home of
       her parents in McKinnon, CCG by Rev. D. Watson Winn.  Three children. Jim
       was born 10 September 1881 in Coweta Co., GA, the son of Robert Nathan
       Carmichael & Margaret Jane McElroy. In 1913, the Carmichaels moved to
       Dade County, FL, settling near the area of what is now S. W. 8th Street &
       Ludlam Road - on the edge of the Everglades. Jim was to farm with Edgar
       Gaunt. When WWI broke out, they returned to Kingsland, GA; however,  by
       the end of 1918 they decided to again return to Dade County, FL (Journal of
       Allie Brown Carmichael).  They settled in the area known as Cutler &
       purchased land which was part of the Dr. Perrine Land Grant on Richmond
       Road between Cutler & Perrine.  There they remained until 1956 when they
       built their last home just across the road from the original land purchase.  Allie
       was a horticulturist & a charter member of the Doctor Perrine Garden Club. 
       Every year, she entered many of her flowers in the Miami Metropolitan Flower
       & Garden Show.  She was awarded the Helen Coffey Award, given to the
       winner of the most blue ribbons in the cut flower division in the show. Jim
       Carmichael, one of the first commercial rose growers in Dade County, founded
       "The Rosery Nursery."  Later, he grew mangoes commercially & developed
       many of the varieties (including the Sensation mango) used in the tropical fruit
       industry.  He died 13 February 1966 in Miami, FL & she died 06 November
       1969 in Coral Gables, FL.  Both buried at Woodlawn Park Cem. in Miami.

        3. HUGH CRAWFORD BROWN JR. born 10 March 1891 in CCG; baptized
        Easter Sunday, 24 April 1892 at Union Chapel nr. Burnt Fort, Camden Co.,
       GA by Rev. D. Watson Winn - sponsors were Mrs. Clara Anne Brown, Miss
       Daisy Steadman, Mrs. Rose Proxy? (Baptismal records states his dob 10
       March 1892 in the Sand Hills of CCG - p. 68 Episcopal Parish Register).  He
       married DAISY NATINA McLEOD on 09 December 1920 in Tampa, FL.  She
       was born 16 February 1894 in Dover, FL, the daughter of Cupid Evans McLeod
       & Lulu Williams.  He died 02 September 1953 in Tampa, FL & she died 12
       December 1957 in Tampa.

    2. WILLIAM WESTON BROWN born 22 October 1865 in Midriver, CCG; married
    MARY ALICE FRANCES DAY on 19 February 1893 in White Oak, GA - by Jas.
    M. Thomas, Justice of Peace - CCG Marriage Book C 1880-1900 p. 297.  She
    was born 06 July 1875 at Brown's Neck in CCG.  Seven children (James A.,
    Annie Laurie, Betty Beatrice, Homer, John, Gladys Mary, Cecil Crawford). 
   Moved to Waycross bet. 1910-1912. He died 30 September 1920 & she died 29
   March 1931.  Both buried in Lott Cemetery in Waycross, GA.

        died 02 April 1919 in Panama where he was still stationed after WWI; buried
       in Lott Cemetery in Waycross, GA.

        2. ANNIE LAURIE BROWN born 04 May 1896 in Midriver, CCG; married
        CARLIE DAVID JAMES on 19 October 1919 in Waycross.  He was born 02
        February 1896 in Manor, GA, the son of Benjamin Wesley James & Roxie
        Verene Dickerson. One daughter.  Annie Laurie was a schoolteacher in Ware
        County, GA; was the postmistress in Manor for approx. two decades.  Carlie
        David was primarily a farmer & worked as a machinist for the Atlantic
       Coastline Railroad Shops - retired after getting a piece of steel in his eye; he
       then became assist. postmaster in Manor.  He was a Mason & WWI
       Veteran.  She died 19 March 1941 & he died 10 May 1961.  Both buried at
       Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA.

        3. BETTY BEATRICE BROWN "Bea" born 24 April 1898 in Midriver, GA;
        married JUNIUS ARTHUR WHITE "June" on 24 December 1915 at the home
        of her father, William Weston Brown, on Butler Street in Waycross, GA.  June
        White was born 21 December 1888 in Ware County, GA, the son of George
        Washington White & Elizabeth Corbitt both of Ware County.  Four children.
        They lived on the old White homeplace three miles north of Manor in Ware
        County.  Farming & turpentine provided a living. June served as a deacon of
        Zenith Baptist Church & Bea was the church clerk.  His name can be found
       on the cornerstone of the new church.  After June's poor health required
        hospitalization & nursing home care, Bea's mother's bachelor brother, Homer
        Robert Day, lived with her & the children until his death in 1945.  Afterwards,
        Bea lived with her daughter at Mt. Green (outside of Millwood) for more than
        thirty years where she enjoyed running her daughter's country store.  June
       died 06 March 1974 at Riverside Nursing Home in Waycross at age 86; Bea
       died 28 February 1989 at Riverside Nursing Home, Waycross, GA just 54
       days short of age 91; both buried at Zenith Baptist Church Cem. near Manor,
       GA.

        4. HOMER W. BROWN born 26 October 1902 in Midriver, CCG; never
        married; died 09 December 1945; buried Lott Cem. Waycross, GA.

        lived in Valdosta, GA before moving to Thomaston, GA in 1994.  He died
       1998.

        7. CECIL CRAWFORD BROWN born 22 April 1910 in Midriver, CCG; married
        LORETTA CRAIG of Hopkins, GA.  Two children.   He died 22 May 1965 in
        Waycross; buried Lott Cem. Waycross, GA.

    December 1901 in Savannah, GA at the home of a Methodist minister.   She
    was born at Dahlonega, GA, the daughter of Louis Jullian Meaders and Sarah
    Isabel O'Connor.  He died February 1908 and is buried at Dahlonega, Lumpkin
    County, GA.  She married 2nd to Samuel Tilden Dowda, M.D. - they lived in
    Abilene, TX and she probably died there.

        1. CECIL MEADERS BROWN - WWII Air Force Veteran; taught school in
        Taylor County, TX; at least one daughter (letter of Birdie M.Dowda in Bryan-
        Lang Library, Woodbine, Camden Co., GA).

        Canonical Register).  He married LOIS ELIZABETH BURGAY on 27 July 1930
        in Brunswick, GA - two children.  She was born 27 August 1902 in Brunswick,
        GA.  In 1928 he & his father purchased hundreds of acres of land in Collier
        Co., out on Tamiami Trail in the settlement they named Ochopee & where
       they originated large-scale farming. Gaunt & Company planted, picked,
       graded & packed tomatoes; thousands of boxes of tomatoes were shipped by
       rail throughout the US.  Later, J.T. Gaunt expanded by growing year-round
       crops at Immokalee, FL.  Fire destroyed almost all of the buildings at
       Ochopee in 1953 - but the USA's smallest (& most photographed) Post Office
       was born out of one of the field storage sheds!  J.T. Gaunt  was President of
       the Board of Trustees of Lee Co. Electric Cooperative.; V. P. & on Board of
       Directors of FL Farm Bureau; on State Soil Conservation Board; Collier Co.
       Housing Com. (State Farm Housing Program); President Collier Co. Lions
       Club.  Lois was a professional musician who played both the piano & organ.
       Before the advent of talking films, Lois was the organist at the Seminole
       Theater in Homestead (on occasion she played piano at the Olympia Theater
       in Miami, according to Frances Brown Evans).  She died 05 August 1970 in

       1919 in Trinity Episcopal Church & transferred membership to Holy Comforter

        Trinity Episcopal Church).  After moving to LaBelle, FL, she was involved in
        establishing the Church of the Good Shepherd there; later, transferred to St.
        Michaels in Gainesville.  Daisy attended business school in Miami and
       became a secretary for a short period of time. She married RALPH HOPKINS
       BROWN on 11 September 1925 at her father's house at 2401 S.W. 10th
       Street in Miami, FL - three children.  Ralph H. Brown was born 01 February
       1900 nr. Midriver in CCG, the son of John Houston Brown & Mary Rebecca
       Godley.

       Ralph graduated from business school in Brunswick, GA.  He came to Miami
        about 1923-1924 & worked for the Seybold Baking Co.  He was half-owner of
        Gaunt Company, Inc. & of Gaunt & Brown Co., both located in Ochopee, FL.

       He became the Vice President of Gaunt Company & was the manager /
       bookkeeper for the merchandising & farming operations.  He kept the business
       records until a massive fire destroyed the store & other buildings at Ochopee
       in 1953.  Ralph Brown was a quiet person; a dedicated worker; attended the
       Methodist Church.  He died 05 March 1955.  She died 26 August 1994 in
       Gainesville, FL.  Both buried at Woodlawn Park Cem. in Miami, FL.

        3. CARRIE MAE GAUNT born 26 June 1906 in Miami, FL; married WILFRED
       ALFRED GRIFFIN in her father's house at 2401 S.W. 10th Street in Miami,
       FL-two children.  He was born 14 June 1900 in the Bahamas & moved to FL;
       known as "Bee" to his close friends and family; worked for Prudential
       Insurance Co. - his office was on Giralda Ave. in Coral Gables, FL.  On 04
       May 1919, Carrie May [sic] Gaunt was confirmed in Trinity Episcopal Church. 
       Transferred membership to St. Stephen's Episcopal in Coconut Grove on 31
       December 1944 (pages 80 & 374 Canonical Register of Trinity Episcopal).  He
       died 13 November 1986 & she died 13 February 1992 in Gainesville, FL.  Both

       4. EDITH CLAIRE GAUNT born 11 October 1915 in Miami, FL; on 17 February
       1929, Edith C. Gaunt was confirmed in Trinity Episcopal Church & transferred
       her membership to St. Stephen's in Coconut Grove on 19 January 1955
       (pages 122 & 388 - Trinity Episcopal Canonical Church Register, Miami, FL). 
       She married DAVID CHAPPELL "Doc" BROWN on 11 July 1934 in her
       father's house at 2401 S.W. 10th Street in Miami, FL (Mary Katherine Brown
       was Edith's Maid of Honor) - two children. Doc Brown was born 23 November
       1911 in Miami, FL, the son of David Chappell "Chap" Brown & Lula Bell.  Doc
       was the grandson of David Chappell "Cut Finger" Brown who hunted deserters
       for the South during the Civil War.  In the David C. Brown Family Bible, Doc's
       name is listed as David Chappell Brown III; Doc's name is listed as David C.
       Brown, Jr. in Trinity Episcopal Records p. 122. In the early 1900's, Chap
       Brown & G.W. Moody were owners of the Brown & Moody General Store in
       Cutler which did a big fur, alligator hide & egret plume trade with the Indians.
       He raised tomatoes on Moody's land in Naranja & bought homestead property
       on Farmlife Road - an area about twelve miles southwest of Cutler (Sources:
       "Villages of South Dade," by Jean Taylor, p. 16 & 20; "A Journey Through
       Time," by Paul S. George, p. 30, 32, 48, 49 Chap's name erroneously listed as
       Daniel in both books).  Chap Brown & his son, Doc Brown, lived at Ochopee.
       Chap Brown left South Dade, purchased about 60 acres on Atlantic Blvd. in
       Jacksonville, FL, & was a Co. Commissioner there ("Villages Of South Dade,"
       p. 20.  Doc Brown moved to Immokalee, FL & for years was one of the largest
       farmers in that area.  Doc was a Collier Co. Commissioner for only a few
       months, as he resigned to accept a state office ("History of Collier Co.," by
       Charlton W. Tebeau p. 210). State office was Game & Fresh Water Fish
       Commissioner (Source: Frank H. Brown, Jr.).  Doc Brown died 25 March 1987;
       Edith Gaunt Brown died 01 July 1994.  Both buried at Memorial Gardens

8. GEORGIA BROWN born 18 May 1834 in Camden Co., GA; married ANDREW JACK REDDICK/READDICK on 28 February 1854 - by J.J. Richards, O.M. - CCG Marriage Book B 1831-1880 p. 141.  He was born 11 April 1828, the son of Peter Readdick & Allie Agnes Wright. She probably died not long after her second child was born.  She is not listed on 1860 CCG Census - he is listed on this census with his two children by Georgia & with his second wife, Carolyn Drury.  He died 07 May 1900 & is buried at Black Point Cem., Camden Co., GA.

    married LUCIUS MAHLON BEDELL on 17 September 1884 in CCG. He was
    born 24 May 1851 in Thomasville, GA, the son of Rev. Mahlon Bedell & Jane

       McQUAID on 12 September 1920. She was born 18 April 1908 & died 18
       January 1922 (in childbirth-infant stillborn).  He married 2nd LILLIAN FALCON
       on 12 October 1924.  She was born 20 June 1907.  He died 14 January 1947.

10.CRAWFORD PARRISH BROWN born 09 April 1838 in Camden Co., GA; married LAURA JANEPARRISH on 19 July 1863 in Camden County, GA - by Rev. W. H. Thomas - CCG Marriage Book B 1831-1880 p. 170.  She was born 14 May 1843 (gravestone says 1843; PWG Vol. VII p. 309 says 1844) in GA, the daughter of William Henry Parrish & Louisa Ann King.  This family moved to Columbia Co., FL.  Crawford P. Brown died 07 July 1878; she died 14 July 1886.  Both buried at Corinth Methodist Church Cemetery in Columbia County, FL. 

    1. JOHN R. BROWN born January 1866 in GA; listed on 1900 Columbia Co., FL
    census - single, "Idle" 12 months unemployed.

    2. HENRY P. BROWN born April 1870 in FL; listed on 1900 Columbia Co., FL
   census -  in the household of Henry P. Parrish & his wife Suwannee as a boarder,
   single, occupation woodsman/turpentine.

    3. CRAWFORD P. BROWN born ca. 1872 in FL

    4. MARY V. BROWN born ca. 1874 in FL

    5. ANNIE BROWN born ca. 1876 in FL
