CHAPTER THREE
THE LEVIN TOMLINSON FAMILY
(Page 231)

This Chapter:

Many children of John Jackson Johnson and Elizabeth Douglas married children of Levin Tomlinson and Sarah Penelope Daugharty. These included Rachel, Eliza, Amanda, William and John Jr. who respectively married James, William, Harris, Elizabeth and Emily Tomlinson.

Levin Tomlinson, son of William Tomlinson and Nancy Register, born on April 11, 1813, married Sarah Penelope Daugharty, on July 26, 1843. Sarah Daugharty, born on March 19, 1825, was the only child of James Daugharty and his first wife, Sarah Spivey. Sarah Daugherty's mother died shortly after Sarah's birth. Sarah's father James remarried and had another family.

The Tomlinson and Daugharty families have a rich history in the development of this country and especially Georgia and Florida. A great deal has been written about these celebrated families in the series of books entitled PIONEERS of WIREGRASS GEORGIA written and published by Folks Huxford in 1951. Much of the following information about these families has been gleamed from these volumes. Levin's ancestors can be traced back to John Tomlinson who was born about 1750 in South Carolina. Sarah's ancestors can be traced back to John Daugharty who was born about 1740 in South Carolina.
