| MARY JANE JOHNSON (Page 158) Cherokee Johnson and Betsy Douglas' daughter Mary Jane, born in 1857, married Melvin White in 1878 in Nassau County, Florida. Melvin White was born in 1850 in South Carolina. For a short time after their marriage, Mary Jane Johnson and Melvin White made Nassau County their home. Later, the family moved to Jacksonville,
Florida. Melvin and Mary Jane were parents to Frederick M., born in September 1877; Newman, born about 1881; Melvin, Jr., born about 1885: Andrew Jackson, born in May 1887, and another son and a daughter. It is thought that Mary Jane Johnson and Melvin White's son Frederick was living alone in Brunswick, Georgia, in 1900 and later in 1910, in Polk County, Florida. Mary Jane Johnson and Melvin White's son Melvin, Jr. married Julia and in 1924 was living in Jacksonville where he was working as
an electrician. Mary Jane Johnson White died in 1917, followed by her husband Melvin White in 1926. This Chapter: |
