JOHN JACKSON JOHNSON, Jr.
(Pages 184-185)

Cherokee Johnson and Betsy Douglas' son John "Johnny", Jr., born on May 30, 1860, in Nassau County, Florida, was twenty-three years old when his father died. His father's vast landholdings were distributed among Johnny's brothers and sisters. Johnny was bequeathed Section 41, the family homestead. Johnny's mother Betsy continued to live at the homestead, with Johnny and fifteen year old Andrew assuming the responsibility for her care.

Johnny, on August 16, 1888, married Emily Tomlinson, born on June 11,1866, the daughter of Levin Tomlinson and Sarah Daugharty. Johnny and Emily made a home for Johnny's mother until she died in the 1890s. Emily's sister Martha, born in May 1849, never married and made her home with Emily and Johnny. The family story of Emily Tomlinson's ancestors is the subject of Chapter Three. The family story of John "Johnny" Jackson Johnson, Jr. and Emily Tomlinson is the subject of Chapter Four.
