THE JOHN DAUGHARTY FAMILY
(Pages 252-255)

John Daugharty was born about 1740 in South Carolina where his parents were early settlers. John served as a private in the Cherokee battles in the South Carolina Colony in 1759 and 1760, under Colonel Richard Richardson of the Camden District of what became Craven County. For his service to the Crown, the Crown awarded John two land grants in South Carolina, one for two hundred acres, dated February 13, 1768 and one for one hundred acres, dated March 21, 1768. Following is a copy of the certificate of the land grant of two hundred acres issued by the Crown to John Daugharty. During the 1770s John Daugharty married Nancy and they became parents to one child, Dempsey who was born in 1777. It is not known if they had any more children. John served in 1781 as a private in the South Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. About 1800, John and Nancy moved from South Carolina to Tattnall County, Georgia.
