DEMPSEY DAUGHARTY
(Page 256)

"Pollie" Pearce in South Carolina. In 1794, Dempsey and Pollie moved to Screven County, Georgia, where in 1795 their son James was born. Dempsey Daugharty was commissioned a captain in the Bullock County Militia in 1804 and again in 1809. About 1810, Dempsey moved to Pulaski County where in 1811 he was commissioned Justice of the Peace of that county. In 1814, Dempsey moved to Tattnall County where his parents, John and Nancy Daugharty, were living. In 1814 while living in Tattnall County, Dempsey and Pollie Daugharty's son, William was born. It is thought that perhaps another son was born to them later but the records are incomplete.

In 1819, shortly after the death of his parents, Dempsey and Pollie, with their sons moved across the Altamaha River and settled in Appling County where Dempsey served as Justice of the Peace between 1828 and 1830. The family made their home on the banks of the Suwannoochee Creek in what is presently Clinch County. In 1835, Dempsey and Pollie's son William married Alief Roberts.

About 1840, Dempsey and Pollie moved to Florida, where they spent their declining years in Columbia and Hamilton Counties. Dempsey died in 1850.
