LELIA WALKER JOHNSON

Johnny J. Johnson, Jr. and Emily Tomlinson's daughter Lelia, born March 1, 1901, first found work as a domestic and later with the Swisher's Cigar Company in Jacksonville. She never married but worked in the cigar business all her life. Lelia died on December 9, 1983, and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery with her sister Allie. The following is a copy of Leila's obituary that appeared in the Sunday, December 11, 1983, edition of The FloridaTimesUnion.

    JOHNSON — Funeral services for Miss Lelia Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the graveside in Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Cecil Wiggins, officiating. Friends will enter at Gate 6 of the cemetery. Miss Johnson, of 3937 Spring Park Rd., died Friday. A native of Hilliard, Fla., she had lived here most of her life and was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include nieces and nephews, including Harry G. Dahlman with whose family she spent most of her adult life. George H. Hewell & Son Northside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
