| SANDOL EMILY JOHNSON (Pages 350-354) Johnny J. Johnson, Jr. and Emily Tomlinson's daughter Sandol Emily, born on May 5, 1903, was a minor when her father died in 1915. She lived with her mother and brothers and sisters in Milliard until her mother passed away in 1921. Sandol and her younger sister, Virue, went to live with her Uncle A. J. Johnson, her guardian, in
Fernandina Beach for a short time. Later Sandol and Virue moved to Jacksonville to find work and live with their older sisters Allie, Gertrude and Lelia. Earlier Sandol's sisters had found work and established a home in Jacksonville. Sandol found a position with the Cheek-Neal Coffee Company and later the Maxwell House Coffee Company. In 1928, Sandol Johnson married Harry George Dahlman, born May 30, 1890, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It has been
suggested that he was orphaned at a young age and was reared by the Kuhlman family. Harry Dahlman, a truck driver, had moved to Jacksonville in 1923, and worked for many different companies during his lifetime. Sandol and Harry were parents to Harry, Jr., born on August 5, 1929, and Charles, born on September 10,1930.

Sandol Johnson Dahlman's unmarried sisters, Virue, Allie, Gertrude and Lelia Johnson, made their home with Sandol and Harry. In 1934 Virue left the group home and married Jacob "Jake" Horton. In 1938, Gertrude left the group home and married Isham "Boe" Peacock. Sandol Johnson and Harry Dahlman's son Charles died as a young child on February
11, 1939, and is buried in the family plot in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville. DAHLMAN— Funeral services for Charles Dahlman, 8-year-old son of Mr. And Mrs. H. G. Dahlman, 1717 Hill Street, who died late Saturday night in a local hospital, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Glennwood Baptist Church with
the Rev. G. K. Hodges officiating. Pallbearers will be: S. H. Snead, Dickee Anderson, Charles Anderson, W. Q. Watson, W. 0. Williamson, and George Guynn. Interment will be in West Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Key-McCabe Funeral Home. Charles was a native of this city and a member of the Baptist Church and of the B. A.'s. He is survived by his parents and a brother, Harry Dahlman, Jr. all of Jacksonville.
Sandol Johnson Dahlman for many years worked for the Maxwell House Coffee Company. During the Second World War years she drove a truck for the Naval Air Base in Jacksonville. Sandol died on January 24, 1964, and is buried in the family plot, number 9-822, in the Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral services for Mrs. Sandol Emily Dahlman, 60, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Key-McCabe Funeral Home, 4747 Main St., with the Rev. Clayton R. Long, pastor of Ellis Road Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. B. Davis, pastor of the Southside Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Dahlman, who lived at 1625 Hill St., died Friday in a local hospital. She was born in Hilliard
and had lived in Jacksonville 40 years. She was a member of the Ellis Road Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include her husband, Harry G. Dahlman, a son, Harry G. Dahlman, Jr. of Jacksonville; five sisters, Mrs. Arrie Rowe of Hilliard, Mrs. Amanda Johnson of St. George, Ga., Miss Allie Johnson, Mrs. Gertrude Peacock and Miss Lelia Johnson, all of Jacksonville; and two grandchildren. Harry George Dahlman on April 30, 1965, followed Sandol in death and is buried beside her in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friday at a local hospital following a long illness. Mr. Dahlman was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and had lived in Jacksonville the past 41 years. He was a member of the Ellis Road Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include a son, Harry G. Dahlman, Jr., and two grandchildren, Miss Cathy Dahlman and Miss Trudy Jo Dahlman, ail of Jacksonville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Key-McCabe Northside Funeral Home. 4747 Main St.
Sandol Johnson and Harry Dahlman's son Harry, Jr., born on August 5, 1929, served in the army as a paratrooper during World War II. Harry first worked for the Genuine Parts Company and later the Buffalo Tank Company. On August 5, 1955, Harry married Peggy Loraine Hunter, daughter of Avon Humphrey and Gordon Hunter. Harry Dahlman and Peggy Hunter first made their home in Jacksonville where they were both
employed. Peggy worked as a clerk with the Prudential Insurance Company, Peggy worked as a clerk with the Prudential Insurance Company, Stockton, Whatley, Davin Company and Z. C. Sterling. Harry and Peggy are parents to two daughters, Cathy and Trudy. Currently, Harry and Peggy make their home in Fernandina Beach, Florida. THIS CHAPTER: |
