AMANDA JOHNSON

In the early 1920s Johnny J. Johnson,. Jr. and Emily Tomlinson's daughter Amanda, born on May 16, 1897, was living alone and employed as a domestic and clerk in Campbell's mercantile store in St. George, Georgia. St. George is located a short distance from Milliard on the Georgia side of the St. Marys River. Campbell's store was located on the present site of Canaday's store in St. George.

While working In St. George, Amanda met and later married on April 10, 1924, Wilbert Franklin Johnson of St. George, Georgia. Although Wilbert and Amanda had the same family name, they were not related. Wilbert was born on January 14, 1887, in Canaan, Ohio, to Monroe Marion Johnson and Bertha Pfeiffer. The story of the ancestors of Wilbert Franklin Johnson is the subject of Chapter Five.
